Vale, vamos a ver… ¡Goa!
No quiero vender humo.
"Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!" ¡Amén! Y funciona, que es lo importante. [Internet access – wireless, Wi-Fi [free], Internet, Internet [LAN]…]

[Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Room sanitization opt-out available] Están obsesionados con la limpieza, y me encanta. Todo parece impecable. Tienes [Hand sanitizer] por todas partes, [Staff trained in safety protocol], y [Rooms sanitized between stays]. [Physical distancing of at least 1 meter].
¡A comer! - Dining, drinking, and snacking: ¡Aquí viene lo divertido! La comida… oh, la comida. [A la carte in restaurant, Asian breakfast, Asian cuisine in restaurant, Bar, Breakfast [buffet], Breakfast service, Buffet in restaurant, Coffee/tea in restaurant, Coffee shop, Desserts in restaurant, Happy hour, International cuisine in restaurant, Poolside bar, Restaurants, Room service [24-hour], Salad in restaurant, Snack bar, Soup in restaurant, Vegetarian restaurant, Western breakfast, Western cuisine in restaurant] El desayuno buffet… He probado el [Asian breakfast]… ¡una explosión de sabores! El bar de la piscina… [Poolside bar] ¡Perfecto para el atardecer! [Happy hour]… ¿quién dice no?
[Pool with view] Impresionantes. He pasado horas flotando, leyendo… [Massage].
Servicios y Comodidades – La Guinda del Pastel: [Air conditioning in public area… Air conditioning, Alarm clock, Bathrobes, Bathroom phone, Bathtub, Blackout curtains…] El personal… ¡encantador! [Concierge, Doorman, Front desk [24-hour]] Atentos, simpáticos, siempre dispuestos a ayudar. ¡Ay, Goa! ¡Ya estoy aquí! This whole trip to India, specifically to Goa, has been a rollercoaster of expectations and reality. Forget those perfectly curated travel blogs… this is the real deal.
Goa Homeland Premium, 3 Double Beds - Itinerario de un Alma Desorganizada (Translation: Itinerary of a Disorganized Soul)
(Premisa: This isn't a finely-tuned Swiss watch. It's more like a well-loved, slightly rusty, vintage Vespa. Prepare for delays, detours, and delicious chaos.)
Día 1: Llegada y el Encanto del Caos (Day 1: Arrival and the Charm of Chaos)
- 7:00 AM: ¡Despertar! Except, actually, more like "Wake-up? What time is it?" After a red-eye flight from…well, let's just say far, I stumbled out of the airport like a zombie. Seriously, I think I saw a particularly flamboyant cow wave at me. I was not mentally prepared.
- 8:00 AM: Finding transport. The hotel arranged a driver, thank God. He, bless his heart, was navigating the Goan roads like a caffeinated pinball. He probably wasn’t wrong when he kept saying "India-time is relaxed" (while honking).
- 9:30 AM: Checking into Goa Homeland Premium. Three double beds? HEAVEN. The room? Pretty damn spacious, although I did find a gecko clinging to the bathroom mirror. He winked at me, I swear.
- 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Trying to unpack. Mostly sprawled on one of those glorious beds, fighting off jet lag, and ordering room service. I’m pretty sure I ate a whole plate of aloo gobi and still wasn't hungry. The food here is insanely good.
- 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Poolside Relaxation (aka: Flailing in the sun). Found the pool! Needed some serious sunshine – and a very strong coffee. Learned that the sun burns much faster in Goa. Applied an insane amount of SPF to my skin.
- 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Attempt to find the beach. I decided to walk to the beach. I got, like, 100 meters. Apparently, the hotel is more inland than I anticipated. Gave up and found a local chai shop. That chai was, like, the best thing that has ever happened to me.
- 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Dinner. Found a restaurant near the beach. Ordered way too much Vindaloo. My mouth is still on fire hours later but totally worth it. The waiter looked like he was trying to tell me "si, it's going to be difficult", but he wanted to be kind I guess.
- 7:00 PM - ∞: Beach. The sunsets here are insane. Seriously, colors I never knew existed. Sat on the beach, trying to comprehend the vastness of the Arabian Sea, and simultaneously feeling completely zen and utterly overwhelmed. Watched the waves, listened to the music.
Día 2: Un Baile de Playas y Templos (Day 2: A Dance of Beaches and Temples)
- 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM: Wake up and regret the Vindaloo. (Note to self: Pace yourself, amiga).
- 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM: Breakfast. The breakfast buffet at Goa Homeland Premium is a dream. So much fruit! And the pastries… oh, the pastries! Almost ate them all. (Mostly did, to be honest.)
- 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Baga Beach. Hired a scooter (terrifying, exhilarating, and I may have nearly mowed down a street dog). Baga Beach is packed. Tourists galore. But the energy is something else! Beach shacks, the music and the smell of seafood. Got slightly hassled by a man wanting to sell me a sarong (no, gracias, I'm good in those shorts).
- 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch. Found a small shack, the seafood was amazing.
- 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Anjuna Beach. Anjuna Beach. Okay, so Baga? Touristy. Expecting more beauty; Anjuna? Pure beauty. Went to the flea market. Bought a bunch of colorful things I probably don’t need but absolutely want. Maybe spent more than I should have. Maybe.
- 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM: Trip to the Temple. Took a taxi to a random temple. It was gorgeous, quiet, and absolutely spiritual. Watched the ceremony. Felt like a complete outsider, but also profoundly moved. Religion is beautiful and I'm grateful for the experience.
- 6:00 PM - ∞: Dinner and Drinks. Found a place playing live music, ate some more delicious food (I'm starting to think I'll be rolling home). Spent the evening completely mesmerized by the music and the people, feeling like I was finally starting to "get" Goa.
Día 3: Espíritu Libre, y un Intento de Coordinación (Day 3: Free Spirit, and an Attempt at Coordination)
- 9:00 AM: Sleep in… or at least, try to. My internal clock is completely shot.
- 10:00 AM: Morning yoga on the hotel rooftop. (Actually, the hotel doesn't have a rooftop. But I will find an amazing yoga person. Will let you know once I find one!)
- 12:00 PM: Finally organized a day trip to Old Goa. (This required multiple attempts, a lot of translation on my phone, and a minor meltdown.)
- 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Old Goa. Old Goa is something else entirely. The architecture is gorgeous, and the history is palpable. Visited a church. Felt a little overwhelmed and went to find a coffee (much needed).
- 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Took an afternoon nap back at the hotel. Needed it.
- 7:00 PM: Dinner. Found a cute little place. Ordered far too much, again. Maybe I’ll try that “pacing myself” thing tomorrow.
- 8:00 PM: Tried to go to a music bar, but it turned into a club. Gave up and went back to the hotel. (Me and clubs? Not a good match.)
Día 4: El Final … O ¿El Comienzo? (Day 4: The End… or the Beginning?)
- 7:00 AM: Another late wake up. Jet lag is a monster.
- 8:00 AM: Last breakfast at the hotel. Sigh. Goodbye, glorious buffet.
- 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Shopping. Buying souvenirs for everyone, including copious amounts of spices, tea, and silk scarves.
- 12:00 PM: Check out of the hotel.
- 1:00 PM: Head to the airport.
- 2:00 PM: Flight back home.
Observations (and ramblings):
- The drivers here are insane. But somehow, they make it work.
- The food is phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. I'm going to need a food detox when I get home.
- The people are incredibly friendly. They smile a lot, even when they're trying to sell you something.
- I still feel utterly lost, and yet completely at home.
- This trip is everything I expected and nothing I expected.
Goa, you beautiful, chaotic, delicious, heartbreaking, and utterly captivating place. I'm sure I'll be back someday. And maybe next time, I'll be slightly less disorganized. Maybe. ¡Adiós, y hasta la próxima!
