¡Grange d'Anjeux: El Retiro Francés de tus Sueños!

¡Grange d'Anjeux: El Retiro Francés de tus Sueños! - ¡En Serio, Un Sueño Hecho Realidad (O Casi)!

¡Ay, Dios mío! ¿Otra crítica de hotel? ¡Pero este es diferente, promise! We’re talking about ¡Grange d'Anjeux: El Retiro Francés de tus Sueños!, that place that promised me… well, a French retreat of my dreams! And, spoiler alert, a lot of it delivered. So, grab your café au lait (or your mate, if you're a proper gaucho like me!) because we're diving deep.

Accessibility: ¿Para Todos? ¡Casi Perfecto!

Okay, let's be real, accessibility is crucial. I always start there. And ¡Grange d'Anjeux seems to be trying. They don't outright shout about every single detail but it does have Facilities for disabled guests, and a Elevator, so that's a great sign! They don't claim "full accessibility" outright but they were pretty good about answering my questions about specific needs. That's a win in my book.

Internet & Tech: ¡Por Fin, Wi-Fi Que Funciona!

This is a MUST-HAVE! Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! Yes! ¡Aleluya! I hate paying extra for the internet when I'm trying to work (or, you know, watch cat videos). But listen: The Wi-Fi wasn't just “available", it actually worked (shocking, I know!). And if you're a serious nerd like me, they also have cable; you can take your laptop and the work can be done. There's also Internet Access - LAN if you want to get your Ethernet on.

Cleanliness & Seguridad: ¿Me Puedo Relajar? ¡EN MAYÚSCULAS!

This is where ¡Grange d'Anjeux REALLY shines. Post-pandemic, you need to know a place is taking hygiene seriously. Well they are: Daily disinfection in common areas, Anti-viral cleaning products, Rooms sanitized between stays. Honestly, I felt safe. They even have Hand sanitizer everywhere. I felt like I could finally breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy my vacation.

Things to Do & Ways to Relax: ¡Un Paraíso para el Bienestar… Casi!

Okay, here's where the "dream" part comes in. This place has Spa, Sauna, Steamroom, Swimming pool, Pool with view, Fitness center, Gym/fitness… the whole shebang. I wanted to just disappear into the massage section for days. ¡Ay, that body scrub! Pure bliss. But listen closely: The gym equipment wasn't exactly the latest model. There was some rust, and some creaking, but I was able to push some iron, a nice, clean shower and the Spa has a good vibe.

Things to Know: About Pools

The Swimming pool [outdoor] was a total win. But the Poolside bar… yeah, it could have been better. The barstaff were amazing, all smiles, happy to serve, but service was a bit slow and sometimes the snacks were just not ready.

Dining, Drinking & Snacking: ¡Comida Francesa… ¿Pero de Verdad?

Alright, this is the make-or-break part, isn't it? Restaurants, Bar, Coffee shop, Snack bar, Poolside bar… They try. I ate the breakfast buffet, and it was… adequate. Western breakfast, Asian breakfast, International cuisine in restaurant. They have some great dishes, some not so sure…

The Coffee/tea in restaurant service was a big plus. Every morning was a must.

Services and Conveniences: ¡Me Trataron Como Rey!

The service at ¡Grange d'Anjeux was mostly excellent. Daily housekeeping? Check. Concierge? Check. Luggage storage? Check. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, which makes a huge difference. They have Cash withdrawal, Currency exchange and the most important: safety deposit boxes for the ones who always worry.

But there were even more fun stuff: they even have an Air conditioning in public area, Coffee/tea maker in the room, and the one of the most useful: Facilities for disabled guests

For the Kids: ¡Familia Feliz!

Family/child friendly looks legit! They are not explicit about kid things, but they are very welcoming, and the staff is very patient, so… a bonus!

Getting Around: ¿Llegar y Despegar?

Airport transfer? Check. Car park [free of charge]? Double check! They also have Taxi service, Valet parking… everything to arrive at the hotel and leave it without worrying about anything.

Now, let's talk about the rooms:

**Available in all rooms: ** Additional toilet, Air conditioning, Alarm clock, Bathrobes, Bathroom phone, Bathtub, Blackout curtains, Carpeting, Closet, Coffee/tea maker, Complimentary tea, Daily housekeeping, Desk, Extra long bed, Free bottled water, Hair dryer, High floor, In-room safe box, Interconnecting room(s) available, Internet access – LAN, Internet access – wireless, Ironing facilities, Laptop workspace, Linens, Mini bar, Mirror, Non-smoking, On-demand movies, Private bathroom, Reading light, Refrigerator, Safety/security feature, Satellite/cable channels, Scale, Seating area, Separate shower/bathtub, Shower, Slippers, Smoke detector, Socket near the bed, Sofa, Soundproofing, Telephone, Toiletries, Towels, Umbrella, Visual alarm, Wake-up service, Wi-Fi [free], Window that opens.

The Verdict: ¿Recomendado? ¡SÍ, PERO CON MATICES!

¡Grange d'Anjeux! is a truly lovely place. It's got charm, the staff are wonderful, and the spa is a dream. Yes, there are minor imperfections, like the gym equipment, the snack bar, the lack of a truly top notch restaurant, but, in the grand scheme of things they are so minor. This is a great choice for a relaxing getaway.

Grange d'Anjeux Bed & Breakfast France

Grange d'Anjeux Bed & Breakfast France

¡Ay, Dios mío! Let's talk about Grange d'Anjeux, shall we? This isn't going to be your pristine travel brochure, folks. This is my brain on Brittany, after a week getting delightfully lost and slightly sunburnt. Buckle up.

GRANGE D'ANJEUX: A Messy, Wonderful Week (and Maybe a Little Too Much Wine)

Day 1: Arrival – Or, How I Nearly Drove into a Field

  • Morning: "Arrive" at Rennes airport. Okay, land at Rennes airport. Finding the rental car was an ordeal. (Why did they call the car "Blueberry"? It's confusing!) Already lost. Seriously considering trading my entire suitcase for a decent GPS.
  • Afternoon: The drive. Oh, the drive! Beautiful fields…beautiful. Except for the moment I, distracted by a particularly fluffy cow, veered dangerously close to a farmer's prize-winning pumpkin patch. My French is rusty, my driving questionable, and my internal monologue is screaming "DON'T CRASH!"
  • Late Afternoon: Finally, finally, arrive at Grange d'Anjeux. Breath held. It’s charming. Rustic. Slightly wonky in the best possible way. Think a fairytale cottage swallowed by a very generous garden. The owner, Madame Dubois (who, bless her heart, speaks only a little English), greets me with a smile and, crucially, a glass of something chilled and fizzy. (Pretty sure it's not water, but I don't care.) INSTANT RELIEF. My room: Cozy. Bed: Huge, and the sheets smelled of lavender. Heaven.
  • Evening: Dinner. Madame Dubois's cooking…chef's kiss! Tonight was Breton galettes with a side of what I think was a cheese they call "Le Chat" (maybe I misheard). I eat outside, listen to the crickets, and make eye contact with a rabbit, who apparently likes my company. Or maybe it's just the crumbs I keep dropping.

Day 2: Exploring the Area - The Breton Coast is So…Dramatic.

  • Morning: French breakfast: croissants, baguette with butter and jam. The joy, pure and unadulterated. This isn't a day to count calories.
  • Late Morning: Excursion to the coast. Okay, "excursion" is me stumbling my way through the winding roads, convinced I'm going to end up in a ditch. I finally get to some cliffs. The sea is crashing. The wind is howling. It's absolutely magnificent, full of the dramatic and beautiful elements I like. Perfect for Instagram! (I have a picture of me nearly blown off a cliff. It's art, I tell you.)
  • Afternoon: Trying to find a little town called "La Pointe." (Google Maps, are you trying to kill me?) Eventually, I find a place. So cute, little, and full of local shops. A crêperie appears, I'm a magnet. Crêpes. Salted caramel. Life made perfect.
  • Evening: Back at Grange d'Anjeux. Madame Dubois gives me an unsolicited history lesson about the area. And I'm already forgetting it. (Sorry, Madame Dubois!) More wine. More rabbit company. More perfect food. One day, I'm staying here forever.

Day 3: Doubling Down On… The Crêpes!!

  • Morning: This is a day of reckoning. I decide I need to improve my French. I buy a beginner's French language book. I say "Bonjour" to everything. (Even the rabbit.)
  • Lunch: I spend more time in the little town. It's more…I had to go to the place and eat another galette and another crêpe. This time, the crêpe had mushrooms and cheese. (I’m fairly certain I'm gaining weight, but I don't care.) I practice my French with the girl (a little bit) at the crêperie. She laughs. I think it was with me. I don't care.
  • Afternoon: I buy local art, maybe a little too much, and I wander near the sea again. I'm actually a little bit inspired. I think I will start making some art and start writing a book.
  • Evening: Madame Dubois has made a special Breton dish, kig ha farz, tonight. It takes a few days to make. The house smells delicious all day. And I learn how to make it (kind of). I promise myself to come back and try it at home.

Day 4: A Cathedral, a Cemetery, and an Existential Crisis

  • Morning: I think I will visit a cathedral. This cathedral is a short drive away, but the ride (as always) is an adventure.
  • Afternoon: Then, I wonder if I should visit a local cemetery. I sit and think about stuff there. Death, Life, the meaning of it all. Everything. Even the sound of birds flying around. I even have a little bit of an existential crisis.
  • Evening: But I go back to the Bed and Breakfast and Madame Dubois puts a big smile on my face, and makes a big meal.

Day 5: The Market and the Near-Disaster

  • Morning: I decide to brave the local market. It's colourful, noisy, and full of things I don't understand (but want to buy anyway). I attempt to buy cheese. (My French collapses under the pressure.) I gesture wildly. I point. I think the cheese-seller feels sorry for me and just hands me something delicious.
  • Afternoon: The near-disaster. I somehow manage to back the rental car into a parked car. (Minor scrape. No harm done.) I consider fleeing the country, but decide to face the music. I apologize profusely (in a mix of English, desperate French, and universal hand gestures). The other driver is incredibly kind. Crisis averted. (Thank goodness for travel insurance.)
  • Evening: Reward myself with massive galette and a bottle of wine. Need to calm the nerves. Then, I meet with some other people at the Bed and Breakfast. They come from all around the world, and have been staying there just as long as me! It's nice to hear their stories.

Day 6: Goodbye, Little Cottage

  • Morning: The final breakfast. More croissants. More coffee. Madame Dubois gives me a hug (bless her heart). I feel a pang of sadness leaving.
  • Afternoon: A final drive-by of the coast. Saying goodbye feels terrible.
  • Evening: Back at the hotel. Maybe I'll try some of the French I've been trying to learn. No, I probably won't. I'll just go grab some food and go to bed and dream of the crêpes I'm going to have again.

Day 7: Back to Real Life… (Sigh)

  • Morning: Getting myself off to the airport.
  • Afternoon: Arriving back where I belong. I can't wait to get back to this place with all the amazing food.
  • Evening: Back to work on Monday…

Reflections:

Grange d'Anjeux. It's not the Ritz. It's not perfect. But it's real. It's full of warmth. It's the kind of place that leaves a little piece of your heart behind. And the crêpes… oh, the crêpes. I'll be back, Brittany. I'll be back.

¡Atenas te espera! El hotel del centro que te enamorará.

Grange d'Anjeux Bed & Breakfast France

Grange d'Anjeux Bed & Breakfast France

¡Ok, ok, Grange d'Anjeux...

ERROR. ¡Casi me ahogo!

¡A veces funcionaba, a veces no!
